INS Arnala – First ASW SWC project ship launched by the Indian Navy

• The first ship of the ASW SWC project, INS Arnala, was launched for the Indian Navy on December 20, 2022, by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, GRSE at Kattupalli, Chennai.
• The ship landed in the sea in the Bay of Bengal at the launching ceremony in the presence of Rasika Choubey, Financial Adviser to the Ministry of Defence.
• In keeping with naval maritime tradition, Mrs. Choubey launched the boat with Vedic Atharva chants.
• The ship was named Arnala after the strategic maritime importance attached by the great Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, to the island of Arnala, located about 13 km north of Vasai in Maharashtra.

• Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched Kalyani Foresta, India’s first green steel brand, in New Delhi on December 21, 2022.
• This steel, the first of its kind, was made by Pune-based steelmaker Kalyani Group, which leaves no carbon footprint on the environment by using renewable energy resources.
• Scindia made the keynote presentation, describing the event as a paradigm shift in the steel sector.
• According to him, India is leading the way among countries committed to achieving carbon neutrality through green steel manufacturing.

• The Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has won the Platinum Icon at the Digital India Awards 2022 for its initiative “Smart Data Cities: Empowering Cities through Data.”
• The award was announced in the category ‘Data Use and Sharing for Socio-Economic Development.’
• The DataSmart Communities Initiative is essential in developing a comprehensive data ecosystem that enables cities to make evidence-based decisions.
• It intends to use the data to improve governance in 100 smart cities in India.

• Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, received an A grade after scoring 3.85 in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) rating, making it the first university in India to do so.
• Congratulating the organization on this achievement, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said it is the result of everyone’s hard work.
• He hoped that all the universities in the state would follow Guru Nanak Dev University to bring glory to the state.
